Santa Sleigh Ride

Monday, 15th December 2003

Our 25th year got off to an unbelievable start thanks to Tina White who, on visiting her hairdressers, heard about the Wellsbourne & District Lions Annual Santa Sleigh Ride which raises funds for local charities. She put the name of RP forward, and was visited by a representative of the Lions where she outlined the work of the Coventry & District Branch. This was taken back to the Lions who decided to make us the recipients of the 2003 event. Tina gained the help of friends who worked for 10 continuous nights travelling around the streets of Wellsbourne and District with carols ringing in their ears and enjoying the sheer delight of the children's faces when Santa arrived. There was also a day at Wellsbourne Market with members of our branch plus Tina herself joining in with the Lions to swell funds. Thanks to you all - you know who you are! On February 14th we were invited over to Wellsbourne to be presented with a cheque but little did we know what we were about to receive. Tina stepped up to receive the sum of £3,500! Those of us who had gone along were stunned but at least we managed to let out a loud cheer to show our appreciation to the Lions. Our special thanks go to Tina, Brian, Chris, Ann, Jilly and Lee Bartlam for their hard work in helping the Lions who we thank most sincerely for supporting the work of the RP society.
