30th Anniversary Dinner & Dance
Saturday, 27th June 2009
After months of planning and worrying I may add, Saturday June 27th finally arrived, but not without panic during the previous 2 days, as our Chairperson Leigh fell down a pot hole on a golf course and broke her foot, she was plastered and that was before she got to the Royal Court to sip her glass of champagne (Thanks to Edwina) as the plaster started from her knee and covered all her foot, she was told not to walk on it, so how was we to get her to the most important date in the Coventry & District RP calendar? A wheelchair was suggested, and this proved to be the answer, so in true RP spirit, with a fresh purple plaster to match her outfit, Leigh led the branch in a night of celebration.
Guests dressed in their very best finery assembled at the Royal Court Hotel in Coventry to enjoy an excellent meal followed by a night of dancing, karaoke for the talented, well done to all who took the mike and entertained us, many sat chatting catching up with friends of bygone days, as three of our past Chairpersons were present, Ian Oliver our very 1st Chairman and his wife Mary, David Pool, Julie Norman along with her husband Paul, also present was one of our very first committee members Bob Sime and his wife Judy, we also welcomed our very special guests David Head RP Fighting Blindness CEO who came along with his wife, and Vice Chairman of the trustee's Roger Green and his wife Margaret, we thank you all for joining us on this very special occasion, and hoped that you enjoyed your evening spent with us.
Once again a presentation was made to Richard, Jean and Edwina receiving engraved champagne glasses and a bottle of Pink Champagne and also a framed certificate for 30 years serving the branch.
It was a great night, we celebrated in real style, the room was decorated with beautiful flower arrangements thanks to Darren Millis (Edwina's son) for getting them made for us, the arrangements were accompanied by pearl balloons with the number 30 printed on each to mark 30 years, floating above each dining table, and a 30ft banner across the back wall reminding everyone what we were celebrating.
Thank you Leigh & Mark for arranging such an excellent event, and to the Royal Court for all their expertise as the celebration ran to perfection, and above all thanks to each and every one of you for coming along and giving your support at such a milestone of achievement for the branch.
